Abstract
This article describes briefly the prolific life devoted to intellectual work and international recognition of the writer and professor Concha Meléndez. Author of essays proclaiming the values of the Spanish American literature (which includes the literature of Puerto Rico), professor Meléndez dedicated her talent to familiarize both her students and readers with the history and writings of Latin America. Her literary work consists of fifteen excellent texts for which she was honored in her native country as well as in many other places. Her professorship included, as one of her main contributions, the foundation of the division of Spanish American Literature, a source of further excellent research on this matter.This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
