Abstract

This essay examines a few models of literary translation in the late Middle Ages, taking as its point of departure the comparative analysis of four different versions of the same gnomic excursus about poverty from a Kalilah wa-Dimnah fable: lbn Muqaffa's Arabic text, its Alfonsine Castilian 'romanceamiento,' the Hebrew translation by rabbi Joel and the Latín Directorium by Johannes of Capua.
