Abstract

The article analyzes José Donoso's book of poetry, entitled Poems of a Novelist (1985), which represents a change of direction in his novelistic trajectory. Donoso's novels constantly show a detritus poetic, apocalyptic space, and a tendency towards the grotesque and ominous. His poetry is completely opposite. In this poetry, there is a new definition of both novel and poetry genres. For Donoso, the novel must be similar to poetry, while poetry must assume the characteristics of the Nineteenth Century novel.
