Abstract
This article uses the PUMS census data for Puerto Rico corresponding to 1990 and 2000. To describe the observed changes in the distribution of household income and earnings, the changes in various inequality measures are estimated. A decomposition analysis is also included in order to separate the effect of within groups and between groups inequality. The findings evidence a significant increase in inequality for both, household income and earnings. For earnings, the increase is more noticeable in the upper part of the distribution. There is also evidence of higher earnings dispersion between females, especially at low levels of education, and between males at both extremes of the education groupings.Downloads
