Abstract
In this article, a historical overview about pandemics and epidemics of infectious diseases that have left their mark throughout the world was presented. The way in which mental health has been addressed as a consequence of such historical events was detailed. This historical overview was presented as a possible panorama of what could be experienced as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Lack of attention to mental health during emergency events and the need for research on the subject was evident.
