Abstract

In this trial we try to formalize a structural conceptualization of the phenomenon of national dependence as a special case of the sociological phenomenon of domination. We do not intend to be awarded the discovery of the variables that have intervened in the manifestation of this phenomenon. What we have to say has been said or could be inferred from studies conducted by others; some of them we refer to later. Our attempt is to infer from observations of the phenomenon, especially as manifested in the Latin American context and especially that of Puerto Rico, its historical process and its current manifestation, conceptual schemes that facilitate the study of this phenomenon in more specific cases, areas and/or spheres and/or from other perspectives where the subjective aspects (symbolic orientations) of the action are given greater emphasis.
