Abstract

This article explores the different memories of racial experience that Puerto Ricans bring to Orlando, Florida, from Puerto Rico and from northern diasporic communities. It then looks at how the black-white racial binary of Orlando history has affected how Puerto Ricans have been received and how they have used historical racial discourses to create a space for themselves in the social, political, and economic worlds of Orlando.
