Abstract
Despite the widespread diffusion on the topic of sexual harassment in recent decades yet its occurrence in academia is cause for concern. This work brings us back to 1980, when a case of sexual harassment rattled a recognized university in Massachusetts that divided the academic community. As part of the memory of this event, the author first explores the existing legal basis developed to curtail this problem in the United States and provides examples of notable harassment cases in academia that inspired the expansion of the law to penalize this conduct. Later, she reviews the case of sexual harassment at Clark University, which illustrates the harmful effects that can a case like this can generate if it is managed inadequately.
