Abstract
This work initially approaches the subject in a metalinguistic light, focusing on the definition
of what has been denominated Cultural Intelligence, because it is a relatively new concept.
Only recently quantitative works on the matter have been considered. Hence, given the meaning
ascribed to the term, its implications and particular sense are discussed to communicate
what Cultural Intelligence is. The subject is equally presented using concrete situations cited by
specialists and using literary situations, very close to reality, that reference fictional texts that
exemplify the cultural challenges of a globalized world. It also suggests that cultivating and practicing
Cultural Intelligence should be fostered in college students to empower them efficiently in
decision making, conflict resolution and appreciating diversity.
