Abstract

The development of Bemisia tabaci was studied in four (A-429, DOR- 303, 27-R and PC-50) bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) genotypes with different amounts of pubescence. The length of the insect proboscis was longer than the trichomes previously reported for the four genotypes under study. There were no differences among the four genotypes tested in the time required by the insect to complete development. The lack of differences in the larval size and the time required by B. tabaci to complete development suggests that pubescence is not an important factor affecting the development of this insect in beans.
