Resumen
Los profesionales de ayuda deben estar conscientes de los elementos sobresalientes que influyen a la sociedad y, como resultado, a sus clientes, por lo que estar atentos a la cultura y su desarrollo es esencial. En este artículo se discute la pertinencia del anime y el manga, como parte de la cultura popular, en la disciplina de la consejería profesional y otras profesiones de ayuda. Se expone la ausencia de reconocimiento adecuado por parte de los diversos profesionales y cómo las poblaciones que lo disfrutan son estigmatizadas como entes extraños, enfatizando la subcultura geek a partir de los 80‘s. Además, se analiza la utilidad del anime y el manga como herramienta para la profesión, se presentan ejemplos de estos medios para la consideración del lector, se ejemplifican casos en que han servido de utilidad para la salud mental de individuos y se discute su uso en terapia.
