Abstract
The aim of this article is to estimate the elasticities of demand for canned pineapple products in Puerto Rico such as pineapple juice and canned pineapple pieces. This work uses quadratic AIDS (i.e. Almost Ideal Demand System) to estimate these elasticities. Monthly import data were used for the period 2005: 01 to 2015: 03. In the equation pineapple, juice was controlled by other goods such as apple juice and grape juice. On the other hand, the packaged pineapple equation was controlled by packaged foods such as mandarins and mixed fruits. It was found that both the demand elasticity of pineapple juice and pineapple pieces is inelastic with respect to price. Which implies that the market has the ability to absorb new products even at a price relatively a little higher than the average sale in the import. In addition, both products were found to be normal goods.
