Abstract

This article is about the experience of three women's community movements while facing the excluding social politics of the Dominican government. The main purpose was to understand the challenges these movements face regularly. It was carried out in a Social Constructionism context, through a living experience in two of the communities and visits to the "bateyes". These movements promote the integration and participation of the women in social, cultural and political processes, looking to eradicate the exclusion, inequality and xenophobia that permeate in the Dominican Republic. In the field of Social Work, it is of the almost importance to understand the strategies of these women's community movements. Through a process of strengthening collective identity, they struggle for the rights of every citizen in their communities, the legalization of their land, their citizenship, alphabetization, employment and medical services. The article concludes with a proposal for women community participation as a mechanism to expand and extend democracy; it highlights women movements as a means of criticism of power, a fomenter of self-management process, and a mechanism for social transformation. It is a complex challenge that must be faced bravely to succeed in obtaining peace, equity and justice.
