Communication as a Mechanism of Social Control in the Work of Abdiel Segarra Ríos

Abstract

In Geometría de lo ordinario [Geometry of the Ordinary], a project presented to the public in 2017, Puerto Rican artist Abdiel Segarra explores visual communications, within the framework of the recent history of Puerto Rico and its colonial reality. Starting with a wide set of media, including photography, video or frottage, Segarra includes practices such as flaÌ,neurism to reflect on the city, consumerism, and the place of the individual.
