Abstract

Regina José Galindo employs corporeal action in a symbolic sense, within a political and cultural context. The main allegorical form that she uses in her work is the notion of the body to construct other perspectives, in contrast with the social structures and practices that categorize it. This creative tool that characterizes her artistic work resignifies the symbolic order structured by the oppressivehegemonic system of the State and society. As a Guatemalan woman, Regina José Galindo practices performance art from her own context to assume her position in the creation of other meanings. Her creative work offers a criticism of the repression based on issues of race, class and gender in contemporary society.
