Abstract
The science fiction film genre, despite being set in a future time, seeks to establish direct links with the present or the more recent past. A large part of its plots derive from debates generated by popular culture in parallel with the appearance of such films, and among them is the concept of architectural and urban modernity. Films such as Metropolis and Fahrenheit 451 bring to the table the debate of their relevance, as well as their transformation from the utopia designed on paper to the dystopia derived from their construction.
