Abstract

In 2016, three murals made by Jaime Suárez in Paseo Puerta de Tierra, at the islet of San Juan, were inaugurated. They were made with three of his architecture students from the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico. With the title Muros sobre muros [Walls over Walls], he has continued exploring the multiple expressive possibilities of concrete, printing numerous fragments of plywood on the wall, that reproduce a series of forms inspired by the military architecture of the old walled city. Besides, he has incorporated other designs with evident pre-Hispanic reminiscences, opening new stratigraphic readings, all linked to this location, around this work.
