Abstract

The aborigines of Puerto Rico traced lines in many of their works with a solid symbolic component. Today, a good part of those designs are used by local artisans and artists as attractive "decorative ornamentation" or "abstract motifs" that, despite that superficial look, enjoy public favor. However, they originally must have been a true material reference for the peoples of the pre-hispanic Caribbean, and this legacy must be celebrated in our days as a commemoration of their culture.
