Abstract

In Puerto Rico, poster art experienced a remarkable development that led their creators to connect public service and artistic inspiration, especially after the creation of the DIVEDCO. Within this medium, the ones dedicated to chess stand out, which would aspire to celebrate and promote international competitions in which players from the island participated. The recent donation of 60 chess posters to the Museum of History, Anthropology and Art of the UPR, as well as the project to acquire silk-screen printing posters under this topic, represent a breakthrough in better understanding both its evolution and the role played by Puerto Rican artists in their execution.
