Abstract
The concept mimesis, as reproduction or imitation of nature, has been one of the central themes of aesthetic reflection. This concept is reviewed here, as it appears in Platonic and Aristotelian doctrines, to contrast it with the reconsideration carried out by the philosopher Hans G. Gadamer. Gadamer‘s critique will allow us to address a rereading of the concept of mimesis that, in turn, opens a new way of interpreting Appropriation Art, beyond the conceptual framework of postmodernist critique.
