Abstract
Nilita Vientós Gastón's first book was a study of Henry James. It is revealing to see why this important Puerto Rican intellectual was interested in the great North American novelist. The study of this book helps us to understand the cultural debates that were taking place at that moment in Puerto Rico. It also helps us understand the author's aesthetic and political principles as presented in her unjustly ignored book.
