Abstract
This article presents a broad image of the life and work of the Dominican writer Aída Cartagena Portalatín based on criticism, the work, and an interview
with the poet‘s sister, Olimpia Cartagena. Her vision of rupture within the avant-garde group called Poesía Sorprendida (Surprised Poetry)
and the importance of her work for the development of 20th century Dominican literature are exposed in this article.
