Abstract
This article analyzes the play Los deudos rivales, a drama written by the first Puerto Rican female playwright, Carmen Hernández de Araújo, in light of the concept of "dramatic text" and the rewriting of ancient Greek tragedies, particularly Antigone, by Sophocles. It attempts to explain the difference between the notion of tragedies and "what is tragic" from Aristotle´s approach to that of Sören Kierkegaard, Friedrich Hegel and Albin Lesky, and how the author adapts them to her characters´ particular situations. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
