Abstract
Mario Vargas Llosa is one of those writers also dedicated to reflect on the nature of literature, especially the genre of the novel. In his essays he explained his conception of "total novel" even as an ideal of his writing. In our reading we examine The War of the End of the World from the categories of traditional historical novel and new historical novel and fiction characterize this as a "totalizing historical novel" which differs from the complete novel.This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
