Abstract

Doble lengua y doble conciencia en Red Beans (1991) y Panoramas (1997) de Víctor Hernández Cruz is a study about Hernández Cruz's poetry and poetic prose. His work is full of linguistic and aesthetic contrasts. Most of his work is written in English with some spatter Spanish. The poet uses Spanish words and phrases. Hernández also employs Spanish syntax when doing literal English translations of popular Puerto Rican sayings. He faces cultural and idiomatic blend as much as his life and on his work to create new languages. His poetry is a gap in two or more cultures and languages. His work is hybrid, bicultural, bilingual, and "non territorial".
