Abstract

In the present article on the Ynstruçion (1570), I combine the research initiated by Susana Jakfalvi-Leiva on the presence of a multiple authorship in the work of Titu with the notion of translation introduced by Raquel Chang-Rodríguez and Frank Solomon. When exploring the concept of translation and its function inside the work, the Ynstruçion reveals the presence of a double project of translation: on the one hand, from an Inca history to a Christian history, and, on the other, from the story of Manco to an argument defending the self governance of the Incas through the appropriation of the discourse and ideas of Bartolomé de las Casas and Francisco de Viloria. Through this double translation, the Ynstruçion becomes resistance writing against the anti-Inca campaign launched by Francisco de Toledo, the fifth viceroy of Peru.
