Abstract

A study to predict the academic achievement of graduates from the University of Puerto Rico (Río Piedras Campus) Business Administration‘s Undergraduate Program. It introduces the concept of "successful graduate", defined as a student with grade point average of at least 3.33, that completed his bachelor‘s degree in an average of 5 years. It was found that the gender of the student as well as the type of high school (public or private) from which the student graduated, were not good predictors for academic success. However, the General Index of Application is a good predictor of success. We propose a new index to predict the student‘s academic success, denoted as "Average Index of MECU Courses." This index is calculated using the grade and the number of times the student took the course.
