Abstract
This study analyzes the development in Puerto Rico of certain values that lead us into our postmaterialistic needs rather the searching for materialistic benefits. The theoretical foundation for this analysis is Dr. Ronald Inglehart´s theory of postmaterialistic tendencies. Data from the Puerto Rico wave of the World Values Survey was used to test the hypothesis that regions in Puerto Rico with different socio economic characteristics will reflect different levels of postmaterialistic achievement. This hypothesis was also tested alt the individual level. The results show that, despite Puerto Rico´s disadvantaged economic position compared to that of other development countries, there is an evident tendency towards the fulfillment of postmaterialistic values and needsDownloads
