Abstract
The present commemorative essay of the foundation of Revista de Ciencias Sociales and of the Centenary of the University of Puerto Rico assesses the contribution of this Journal to the study of the relationship between economic development and income inequality in Puerto Rico. The preponderance of this topic among all the articles published in Revista de Ciencias Sociales since its origin in 1957 to 1989, end-point of this retrospection, is very prominent. The essay reviews the content of eight (8) selected, seminal articles on the subject, according to their impact on the learning and research process in the academy and in the field of the practicing economist. Besides following the same thematic unit, the selections denotes a methodological evolution around a specific inequality paradigm (Kuznets‘ thesis) and the gradual adoption of computational resources and techniques into this research field. In closing, the author suggests prospective lines of inquiry to further the advancement of the subject. Specifically, he recommends a recontextualization of the income distribution process, the restatement of the distributive problem, and a new methodological approach to this research endeavor.Downloads
