Abstract
In this paper the author evaluates manifestations of Dominican adolescents sexuality and the impact of research on public policies about sexuality. Thirty-nine studies are reviewed, including theses and dissertations, and scientific journal articles. Emphasis is placed on instruments, procedures, analysis and main results. Difficulties for insertion in the formal labor market and lack of family and school support are prominent. Masculinity is a problem for young men‘s social validation and pregnancy is experienced as part of the onset of a casual relationship often doomed to failure. The social response to the threat of HIV/AIDS has been positive according to most studies. Condom use is becoming increasingly independent from notions of distrust or unfaithfulness among single adolescents. In conclusion, despite the vigor of research, its impact on public policies, preventive programs and strategies has been relatively meager.Downloads
