Abstract
Psychology, particularly from critical approaches, focuses on the ways in which the subjects makes sense of their world as well as the bonds that configure the complex relationships between the individual and the social. In the context of the current health crisis, the work of Enrique Pichón-Riviére, together with the study of the historical and cultural elements of social groups, provide clues for the study of the ways in which subjects make sense of a world in constant crisis. In this article we analyze the relationship between Puerto Rican history and society, reflecting on the metaphors that have been used to account the pandemic and the bonds that these metaphors promote. Through a theoretical and historical analysis, we propose research pathways for the study of Puerto Rican subjectivity, analyzing the psychological, the historical, and the cultural from a perspective of bonds. Our goal is to understand and problematize the war metaphor used in the media construction of the virus. The authors also want to promote a theoretical framework that allows a reflection on the collective and affective dimensions of psychosocial phenomena.
