About the Journal

Psicología(s) is a refereed journal, published annually by the Department of Psychology of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. The magazine covers the knowledge, knowledge and advances of the different perspectives of the psychological discipline. Within a space in which theoretical and empirical contributions are considered, from unpublished publications of the type: theoretical, critical analysis, applied research, literature review, experiences with different methodological approaches. As well as present reviews of texts published in various formats. Also, the journal welcomes students from the Psychology Graduate Program so that they can publish theoretical or investigative papers.

Call for articles

The Editorial Board of Psicología(s) keeps its call open throughout the year for the submission of documents to be evaluated for publication, so the journal will be continuously accepting collaborations. The articles can be contributions for the following sections: (1) Thematic articles, (2) Research articles, (3) Experiences and reflections, (4) New voices and (5) Book review. The guide for submitting articles can be found in the section titled Instructions for authors, it is also important to review the Peer Review Process. Submissions should be sent to the editor Dr. Ruth Nina Estrella (ruth.nina1@upr.edu) or to the journal email: revista.psicologias@upr.edu.

I. Thematic Articles Section: includes corresponding original theoretical or empirical papers that address the theme established by the journal.                                                            II. Research Articles Section: includes original theoretical or empirical papers.
III. Experiences and Reflections Section: include professional experiences and reflections on community practices or preliminary results of some investigation.
IV. New Voices: presentation of work by undergraduate or graduate students.
V. Book review: presentation of a significant book for the profession.

Publication Integrity Policy

Psicología(s) promotes integrity in research and publication. All manuscripts submitted to the journal will use plagiarism detection programs or any other electronic tool that can guarantee the originality of the works received. Psicología(s) will reject any work that presents evidence of plagiarism, at any time during the editorial process. The journal will follow the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to address these allegations.

Instructions for authors

  1. All articles submitted to the journal must be unpublished. Therefore, when submitting documents, it is expected that they will not be sent to other journals.
  2. They must be written in APA Seventh Edition style.
  3. They can be submitted in English or Spanish.
  4. In all new submissions, include on the first page the name(s) of the person(s) with authorship, their affiliation, their email, and the ORCID ID in the case of academic authors.
  5. The length of the articles should not exceed 25 double-spaced pages, including tables and figures. The font must be Times New Roman, size 12.
  6. All articles must be written in a Microsoft Word document.
  7. The title of the article must not exceed 15 words; It must be written in Spanish and English.
  8. Every article must contain a title or heading.
  9. Every article must contain two abstracts: Spanish and English. The abstract can include a maximum of 250 words, and a total of five keywords in Spanish and English.
  10. The articles must be accompanied by the information of the person with authorship, on a separate sheet (maximum 100 words).
  11. All contributions must be sent by email to the editor Dr. Ruth Nina Estrella (ruth.nina1@upr.edu) or to the journal email: revista.psicologias@upr.edu.
  12. The document must be sent in Microsoft Word, EPUB or some other compatible program format. Papers submitted in PDF format or any other format that is not editable will not be accepted.

Policy for peer review and evaluation

When submitting an article, it will be reviewed in the first instance by the editor of the journal to ensure compliance with minimum standards. Then, every article that complies with this process goes to the next phase: peer review. In Psicología(s), external evaluators from distinguished national and international universities collaborate. The collaborations are reviewed by two expert evaluators in the subject for their consideration, those that do not comply are returned to their authors with the comments and the opinion of their work. The review process as peer review is double blind.

When the journal receives a paper for consideration, it will be preliminarily reviewed by the editor, and the procedure will be as follows:

  1. Upon receipt of a document, an acknowledgment of receipt is sent.
  2. After receiving the work, it is verified that it complies with the journal's publication standards and policy.
  3. When the document meets the requirements, the author is notified that her work has been referred to the Editorial Board to start the peer review process.
  4. When the work does not meet the recommendations, the author is notified with the reasons for the return. The author may make the pertinent changes and resubmit her work at any time.

Open access policy

Psicología(s) supports open access to scholarly work. All articles and reviews in the magazine are freely available, from the date of publication, under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License. Therefore, the magazine allows readers to select, read, copy, download, print, distribute or link to the full texts of the articles, as well as use them for any legal purpose. Psicología(s) depends on the support of the Department of Psychology, of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, as well as the good will of its Editorial Board and the continuous support of its international network of peer reviewers.

Self-Archive Policy

Psicología(s) supports the early availability of research results that contribute to scientific communication and the dissemination of knowledge. The authors can publish the articles sent to the Journal, before or after publication, as long as they accredit the Journal. Consequently, you can:

  1. Archive the preprint version, until the article is accepted for publication.
  2. Archive the postprint version, until the article is published.
  3. Archive the publisher's version on your website, institutional repositories, subject repositories, academic profiles, and social networks for scientists and researchers: (1) after the online publication of the article in Psychology(s); (2) on non-profit servers; and (3) with a link to (or the URL of) the publisher's version.

Policy for detection of plagiarism and lack of ethics in research

Manuscripts submitted to Psicología(s) will be screened for the possibility of plagiarism using electronic plagiarism detection tools. When articles and/or reviews that represent any type of plagiarism are identified, they will be immediately rejected. In the event that the Editorial Board or the Psychology editor(s) become aware of any lack of ethics in research related to an article or review submitted or published in the Journal, the guidelines of the Publication Ethics Committee will be followed (COPE) to address these allegations.

Digital Files Preservation Policy

Psicología(s) preserves your digital files in various storage options. The Journal's work team keeps copies of the numbers in: (1) Google Drive, (2) the server of the Academic Journals Portal of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, (3) the Institutional Repository of the University of Puerto Rico and (4) an external memory device. In that sense, Psicología(s) is responsible for the fact that the published content is retrievable.
