Abstract

The formation of the Puerto Rican diaspora in the Orlando Metropolitan Area in Florida differs from the historically established diaspora in other parts of the United States. Puerto Rican identities are not homogeneous across spaces and places. Puerto Ricans have lived and experienced different spatial contexts, resulting in different notions of identity, sensitive to such spatial variations. Puerto Ricans in Metro Orlando are constructing an identity based on what they think it means to be from the island, and they differ from the rest of the Puerto Rican diaspora in the United States.
