Abstract

Diaprepes abbreviatus has typical chromosomes of the bisexual weevils of the subfamily Otiorrhynchinae: 2n = 22; 2X (♀) ; 2n = 22; X, y (â™,), the male meioformula being 10 + Xyp. The autosomes form an evenly-diminishing series of near-mediocentrics. Some speculations are presented regarding how a meiotic drive, suitable for control purposes, might be established in such a trivial karyotype.
