Abstract

Difficulty in establishing the identity of a species of Empoasca collected on papaya led to a study of a primarily neotropical group of species related to Empoasca solana. The group includes canavalia, solana, manda, dilitara, plebeia, tamiama, caldwelli, hyalina, olivatula, thela, and two new species: stevensi and wolcotti. A key to the 12 species, and descriptions of 9 of them are included.
