Abstract

This paper presents Foucault‘s considerations on timing and kairos, especially in Ancient Thought (Greek Thought and Christianity). Disputing the interpretation of time as solely succession he considers time from a qualitative dimension as timing and also takes into account the idea of the eternal recurrence. Foucault links the reflection on kairos to other topics of Ancient Ethics as the care for the self and the freedom to speak freely and frankly (parrhesia).
