Abstract

The main history of sociology in Latin America include works of Hostos and Varona. Imbued by the dominant positivist perspective at that time. However, did not let themselves lead in a dogmatic manner by this epistemological position and knew how to develop a vision of social phenomena. They used their instruments sociological to analyze several phenomena in their respective countries and the social development in general as progress, inequalities, poverty, education, democracy, prostitution, etc., with the conviction that their ideas could contribute to the improvement of society.
