Abstract

The article suggests hypotheses and areas for further research on the extent to which the Puerto Rican and Dominican labor force compete in the same spaces or are segregated in the labor market in Puerto Rico and how the niches in which they are concentrated are constituted. Using the PUMS data of the Puerto Rican Community Survey 2005-2009; the study presents a description of the Puerto Rican and Dominican population 20 to 64 years old and their proportion in the experienced labor force; the employment segments in which they are concentrated and their employment rates; including dimensions of gender; marital status; household relation; education; occupational and industrial composition and class/sector of employment.
