Abstract

The essay "The Awakening of the Left: An Analysis of its Victory in the 2022 Elections in Colombia", examines the political evolution of Colombia from the 19th century to the present, highlighting the rise of leftism and its victory with Gustavo Petro in 2022 The historical polarization, violence, the breakdown of the traditional two-party system, drug trafficking, and the internal armed conflict are analyzed, as well as the importance of the 1991 Constitution and the 2016 Peace Agreement. The Historical Pact coalition emerged in 2021. as a response to social inequality and popular discontent, offering a change in the social dynamics of the country and an alternative to the traditional elites, marking a significant milestone in Colombian political history.
