Kenneth Gavrell taught at the University of Hawaii at Honolulu and the University of Athens, Greece (on a Fulbright grant)before joining the faculty of University of Puerto Rico in 1968. He received his bachelor‘s degree from Fordham University, his master‘s from New York University, and his doctorate from the University of Iowa. At Iowa he took a normal degree in literature while at the same time doing creative work in the famous Writer‘s Workshop. Professor Gavrell has published extensively, particularly in the field of mystery fiction. His work has appeared in Alfred Hitchcock‘s Mystery Magazine, the mike Shayne Mystery Magazine, and the journal The Armchair Detective. He has won three writing prizes. Most of his fiction is set in Puerto Ricco. Professor Gavrell‘s latest work of fiction will appear in the book A Matter of Crime, a collection of stories by contemporary mystery writers to be published by Bruccoli Clark, Layman in 1988. He is currently Coordinator of the Graduate Program of the Department of English.
